And the award for the most miserable actress goes to... Frances McDormand! The star barely breaks a smile at Golden Globes

She clearly wasn't amused despite her Golden Globes nomination.

Frances McDormand looked distinctly dour and bored during the awards show at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills on Sunday evening.

The cameras repeatedly caught the 57-year-old looking out of sorts as they panned the tables of smiling celebrities - and her reaction quickly became one of the top trending topics on social media, according to Us Magazine.

She barely broke a smile, even when her nomination for best performance by an actress in a miniseries or motion picture made for television, for HBO's Olive Kitteridge, was read out.
The category was won by Maggie Gyllenhaal for her role in The Honourable Woman.

Admittedly, that was a good reason for Frances to look less than happy although nominees usually manage to put on a brave face in such situations.

The celebrity, who has been married to director Joel Cohen since 1984, appeared to be at the ceremony solo and wasn't seen walking the red carpet outside the venue.

E! Online reported that it was unusually warm in the Beverly Hilton's ballroom and Frances was obviously feeling it as she frequently fanned herself throughout the proceedings.

So that may be why the the Oscar winner seemed out of sorts.

Still serious: The actress was nominated for best performance in a miniseries or motion picture made for television for HBO's Olive Kitteridge, but managed only a slight smile when her name was read out

Meanwhile, the actress will no doubt put the evening behind her and continue with her busy career.

She is voicing Momma dinosaur in animated comedy, The Good Dinosaur, due out November 25.

Frances also has a role in husband Joel and Ethan Cohen's Hail, Caesar! about a Hollywood fixer in the 1950s who works to keep the studio's stars in line, due out in 2016.
